Job title: Salon manager
How many years have you worked in the industry, and what qualifications do you have?
Over 34 years; my qualifications include a City & Guilds NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds Assessor Awards, and my City & Guilds Trainers Certificate.
Why did you take up hairdressing?
My very first visit to a salon was in my teens by myself – my mum always cut our hair, and I promised myself I would learn how to cut my future children’s hair properly!
What keeps you motivated?
My love for the industry and also my boss sending me on courses and providing motivational books. It also helps that she is very self-motivated and it tends to rub off on me.
Which famous person’s hairstyle would you like to change?
My boss’s partner Geoff Wiseman (famous as he appeared on TV in the Carrot And The Stick program! – http://www.channel4.com/life/microsites/C/carrot_or_stick/). His head’s been clean-shaven since I met him so I’d love to see him with hair.
What do you enjoy about your work?
I’m fortunate to work in a salon where a wonderful atmosphere is created by individuals who make up our team, and that’s why I enjoy going to work. What I love about the industry is making people feel great when they’ve had their hair done and been given good hair advice.
Where do you go on holiday, and how do you enjoy yourself?
Anywhere abroad for a week at a time (I miss family far too much for any longer), but I also like exploring England for weekend breaks throughout the year. My husband and I enjoy good food and good wine!
Favourite celeb, music, TV show, film and hobbies?
Geoffrey Wiseman, swing music and The Rat Pack, Friends, cooking for friends and family, and my favourite movies are chick flicks and thrillers.
